What would you like written in the sand?

Are you looking for a unique wedding, graduation or birthday gift?

What about a special way to memorialize a loved one or celebrate a new life?

Daytime or Sunset?? What's your preference?

As I have done many, many photos during the setting sun, I have done very few during the day.
Most everyone prefers sunset photos, but I'm considering doing only daytime shots.  WHY would you do that when most love the sunset?  Because the sun sets in minutes and I have so many to write.  I can't start too soon or they are too brown, I can't be too late or they are too dark & blurry in the darkness.  I have what each looks like as the sun begins to set & then once it is several minutes post sunset for you to view on one of my Facebook posts this month.

3 of the best photographers I know of that do names in the sand do it during the daytime, mainly for this hurried crazy sunset reason.
What are your thoughts?  If I stick with sunset pictures, I will have to scale down from about 100 requests per visit to Hawaii to 50 or 60.

Here are some photos during the day at a North Shore beach on Oahu.

Home ~ A new beach I discovered ~ Jeanne, the Isl Keeper artist

Each trip, I say I have too many orders & need to scale back, so last time in April I did 105 photos. But somehow, this trip I did 174!!  It was all crammed in over 3 sunsets & 1 early morning.
Okay, so seriously, I need to scale back because it dominates my time too much, but mostly because I do not like to be that rushed. Each one has a special meaning & most have special requests, so there is no way to adequately take the proper time needed for each name, which is truly a person.
In some cases though, I have pet names too.  I did 5 pet names & 2 that I don't know if they were pets & didn't have the nerve to ask.  But the names made me sure think they were, of course they could be nick names too.
****   Remember, photos for soldiers families are for FREE, Post Pals (children with cancer)/illness are for FREE, couples getting married, pets, businesses, in memory of anyone you love, and in celebration of anyone you love too are $15.
I do collages of any photos you'd like including the one in the sand in the grouping.  If you want an ultrasound photo or couples photo with a sand picture, that is great with Hawaiian flowers & sunset pictures.
I'll post some later, but in the meantime, you can put "collage" or "collages" in the search bar & many will come up for you.
Hubby turned around after being home from this HI trip & is now in California teaching.  He is gone way too  much, but he loves his job & it's always good to have a job & medical benefits.
THE NEW BEACH!!  Omg!  It's called Ko Olina & is in the west side of Oahu. It's spectacular, remote, peaceful & perfect for photos.  It does take about 1 hr in traffic to get there, but well worth it.  I have many, many Ko Olina photos to show you & when on Oahu, I'll use that beach as much as I can.  When on Maui, I try to always use a beach in Kihea.
Do any of you have a beach you'd like to share with me?  Anything in California you love?  I liked Oceanside, but I'm sure there are so many I don't even know about in both HI & CA, but I'd really love to hear about them.
I've updated many photos on my Facebook page, but I'll also post here.  I have been hearing from families that they are not receiving all the pictures I send.  I have to send one at a time because they are high resolution & each takes a few minutes to take off from  my computer, so I'm sure I've stressed out my computer's "send" file.
I met with Jeanne, the lady who makes the Island Keeper jars.  We chatted at Starbucks at a huge mall called Ala Moana mall. It's an amazing place where you could spend the whole weekend & still have new shops to visit.  Jeanne has another size IK jar I'd like to make available as a choice with the small 3 inch one.  If you don't know about the IK jars, please see my favorites section.  They are perfect for sand, shells, army dog tags, mementos of any kind.

Amazing shop...I mean experience!

Banana Wind ~ a polynesian trader

Is the most unique shop you will experience. I say that because it is owned by a couple who travels around the world with their young children to find extra home accents, Hawaiian gifts & south pacific items that you won't find in one place anywhere else.  They have photos from their travels placed around the shop so you can see just where your item came from.  Don't you love it when other people make beautiful things with such love & care from places you could only maybe dream of visiting.  I love the amazing collection of shells, sand dollars & starfish.  I never knew about the blue ones until I found them in this shop.
If you ever go to Maui, don't miss this place.  I wish they had shops on every island.
If you go, let me know what you thought & what you bought!

The power of the ocean to Heal

Surfing and healing
Treating PTSD with surfing

We have all known the power of the ocean.  We fill rejuvenated,  and find a place to go where we can cleanse our soul & sort through out thoughts & feelings.
I am so happy to see that there are two organizations that now help people with physical and
physical struggles using the ocean, surfing & caring people to teach them.

Mauli Ola means "Breath of Life" in Hawaiian.
The Mauli Ola Foundation exists to introduce surfing as a natural treatment to people with genetic disorders. Since 2007 we have concentrated on the amazing connection between Surfing and Cystic Fibrosis." This wonderful foundation now helps those with cancer using the power of surfing & the ocean. Come visit their page.

Making a Family Cookbook...STILLLLLLL

Wow, so how many of you have created a cookbook?  I thought it was a great idea to combine all the family recipes in one location. But it sure is a lot of work, however, the good news is I found a printer in Seattle (thanks to my Aunt's excellent references) and I am done with the 350 recipes.  They are all typed, some include photos, all the same font, etc.  I only have the index to do & off to the printers.  It has taken 9 months.
I am returning to work in a couple weeks, so this big project needs to get off my plate.

Yes, I am a nurse who has worked for over 25 yrs & have ruined my feet with severe plantar faciitis vowing to live now & not work so hard.  But, back I go because my our oldest is in college & that is life.

Kitty Kat...he is still here on this earth with us.  He started a new medication that has gotten rid of his nausea & made him feel like a million bucks again.  Life is good, but college is a rip off.  How are we ever supposed to pay.  I am still paying for MY college loans.  Just a little stressed about this subject lately.

A different direction for this blog of mine...please message me

I've had a few people ask me why I don't post anything else on my blog but photos & 'stuff' about Hawaii, no personal info or personal pictures.  The bottom line is, I didn't think people would really have an interest.  Not that anyone is deliberately not wanting to read, but I know we all have busy, colorful, crazy lives at times & my life is probably not of that big of interest.  So, if this gets read, or it doesn't, I'm going to start posting some other parts of my life for a while.  I know for me, I greatly enjoy reading others' blogs, so perhaps you might find a connection with what I am saying or doing, or you might want to share things with me about YOU.  I would LOVE that!

Today...a few weeks ago, our beloved orange Kitty Kat was diagnosed with colon cancer that spread to his liver. He is age 11, which is middle age in cat lives.  Otherwise called Triple K (King Kitty Kat), he was the bad-ass of the block.  He kept everything & everything in check.  He was awesome, but slowly this horrible disease which I hate in humans and animals is taking his life rapidly & we can only sit back & watch, & spoil him.  At the vet check up today, he continues to lose weight & muscle mass, but also continues to be happy, purr, sunbathe & eat a lot.  It's not time...yet.  When we are faced with this, it is a gift because we can treasure everything every single day. We can say & do all we wanted to say & do, there is still time.

Please message me back, I would love to hear from you. Also, view my last post photo, it's one of my true favorites from Waikiki.

Painting: Angel of the Ocean by J. Klippel

"The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient.  One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach--waiting for a gift from the sea."
